FAQ
What is involved in the program?
With the Davis® methods the client will first learn how to correct perception and disorientation at will. This is accomplished via Davis Orientation Counseling®—as outlined in The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis.
The client will then learn how to master the basic symbols for reading and writing by creating the alphabet and abstract words using clay. This is a fun and easy way for clients to overcome confusions.
How is this program different from others?
The Davis® methods address the root cause of learning disabilities. This positive, creative-based program is DESIGNED for the learning style of the visual-spatial person. It uses the natural strengths and talents of the client’s personal learning style. Clients will learn HOW THEY LEARN and leave with the ability to implement the knowledge obtained during the program into daily life.
The program does not use phonics, colored-overlays, rote memorization, or repetitive drill. These address only the symptoms, not the root cause of Dyslexia.
How long is a Davis® Program?
The Davis® Program is conducted one-on-one. It is generally 30 hours over 5 consecutive days and personalized to meet student needs and goals.
The young learner's progam is generally 10 three hour days and includes a parent helper.
What happens after a Davis® Program?
Students complete a Davis® program with new found confidence and enthusiasm for learning. They experience change during their program week, and they build on that growth as they use their new tools.
Those who complete a Davis Reading Program or Davis Math Program have fun but essential homework that can take 6 months to a year to complete. They have a trained family support person, and they have a game plan and tools for accomplishing their goals.
How effective is a Davis Program?
We have seen exciting results with our students. Non readers have become confident readers; reluctant learners have become excited knowledge seekers; confused students have excelled and succeeded in subjects that once seemed overwhelming.
What should be my first steps in deciding if this program fits me or my child?

Is a dyslexic diagnosis required in order to receive services here?
No. I service clients who do not have any type of diagnosis to those who have a variety of documented language deficiencies. Often times, the dyslexic learner experiences many academic struggles in the classroom, but will not qualify for special services when tested through the IEP process. Nevertheless, service to remedy the situation is needed.
My child is a good reader, but really struggles in math. Can this program help?
Yes. Math is also an area heavily concentrated with 2-dimensional symbols and abstract vocabulary. Davis intervention provides for the student to resolve confusions at the root level of math development, while meeting the visual-spatial learning style. Refer to Services to determine the math program that best meets your needs.
My child often complains of tummy aches or headaches when reading or completing homework. Is this really a concern, or is he just trying to get out of his work?
Yes, this is a concern. No, he is not making up excuses. Physical ailments often indicate that a student is experiencing disorientation due to the work before him. The Davis® program specializes in resolving disorientation issues that occur when students are reading or writing. Avoidance of the work is their only means of stopping the disorienting feelings. Specialized intervention is necessary to resolve the problem.
My child’s handwriting is very poor, and may be illegible by the end of an assignment. Can this be remedied?
Yes. This is another example of the child experiencing disorientation. Once the child is taught how to control his focus and perceptions through Davis® focusing methods, legible penmanship is obtainable.
Can adults find help through the Davis® program?
Yes. Adult programs are especially rewarding for all involved. Adults seeking services bring with them maturity and high levels of motivation to resolve life-long confusions. Mastermind Learning Solutions can service adults who are high school graduates, current college students, and college graduates.
What learning problems can the Davis® programs help solve?
Dyslexia
General reading disability
Dysgraphia (penmanship deficiencies)
Dyscalculia (math challenges)
Dyspraxia (coordination and balance difficulties)
Auditory processing difficulties
ADD/ADHD (attention deficit disorder/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
Challenges with concepts of sequence, time, order/disorder, and organization
Does this program work with adults?
Yes! At the age of 38, Ron Davis discovered the tools that allowed him to correct perception and, for the first time in his life, read an entire book in one sitting. After his discovery, the program was further tested and developed by working with adult dyslexic volunteers.
Motivated adults bring a level of maturity and self-awareness that make the program extremely rewarding and successful!
What can I expect to gain from the program?
Clients leave the program with the tools of basic literacy—including:
The ability to recognize and correct disorientations at will
The ability to focus attention
The knowledge of how to eliminate confusions in words and symbols
Increased self-confidence and ability in reading, writing, math or physical skills
Implementing the tools into every day life, as well as doing Davis Symbol Mastery® follow-up on trigger words, is necessary to ensure continued success with the program.
How much improvement in reading and writing can I expect?
The Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program has a 97% success rate! A typical program will provide for a significant improvement by the last day of the program. This is a literacy jump start…future progress is determined by the client’s motivation, continued use of tools, and completion of Symbol Mastery after the program.
How does the program work for home schooled children?
The Davis® Program blends beautifully with the home school setting. Upon completion of the one week 30-hour program, the facilitator will provide for you an overview of how to proceed for the next 4-6 months using the materials that you will be provided.
